"A
Baby Messiah Is Born To The World"
I would like to take you back about two thousand years ago. Come let us join a multitude of people outside a Holy temple as a gentle hush is over the crowd as everyone. A priest named Zacharias walks up preparing to enter the Holys of Holys which only special Holy men of God can go Priests. He's a kind man who's married to a precious woman named Elisabeth. Zacharias enters the Lord’s beautiful Temple into a Holy area to burn incense during special times. Lots had to be cast in order to choose a priest to enter into the temple each year and that was a very solemn occasion. This time it was Zacharias’ turn to serve the Lord in the temple. He knew that this was a great privilege so he felt very humbled by this great honor because this year's Lots had been cast upon him. Zacharias and Elisabeth were righteous and blameless before the Lord. Their obedience came from down deep in side or their hearts. They were not just following the religious laws but they really loved the Lord and wanted to do what the Lord desired them to do! Sadly Elisabeth was barren and an elderly woman which meant she could NOT have any children. To the Jewish people, being barren without children was a sad sign of failure and an evil omen. This made everyone around look down upon them as being less than righteous people, for it was believed that only woman who had children were blessed of God. It made the people regard them as odd and different, less than blessed in the sight of the Lord. Zacharias and Elisabeth very sad as the years went by because of the hurts they had to endure from other people as well as this feeling of failure! When Zacharias entered the Holy room he felt a feeling of warmth and love permeating everywhere. Its a special feeling, like a cloud of all surrounding, consuming love and it was everywhere almost like the wonderful scent of flowers but more so. Even we can feel this wonderful feeling as it engulfs us. A feeling of love so great, that it just hugs us with the biggest, warmest, wonderful loving HUG. There is no feeling in the world as tremendous as the love we feel in that room. Surely this is the feeling of being in the presence of God! We watch with a feeling of earnest affection knowing that Zacharias was a special man to serve the Lord. The room grows lighter as brilliant, warm, loving light engulfs every part of it. All of a sudden a beautiful, tall, shining angel of God is before our shocked eyes. Luke 1:11-14 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zasharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and they wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. Luke 1:18-20 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to show thee these glad tiding. And, behold, thou shall be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. When Zacharias came out of the temple, he had a wide eyed look of shock upon his face and why not for surely he had been with the Lord's angel. The people were surprised and made a great noise. They all perceived among each other that Zacharias had seen a mighty vision because he could not speak. He could only use his hands in sign language. What had happened to him they all wondered asking, "WHAT HAD HAPPENED?" Now a short time later a beautiful angel named Gabriel came to visit a young unmarried girl, a virgin from a city called Nazareth. The name of this gentle sweet girl was Mary who was engaged to a successful carpenter named Joseph. His heritage could be traced back to the family of King David so Mary felt blessed to have him in her life. Luke 1:30-38 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was call barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. So Mary went up into the hills to visit Elisabeth and happily stayed three months with her. You see, when she saw that Elisabeth was indeed going to have a baby in her old age she rejoiced with her. The angel told her the truth so out of her faith, Mary believed! The anointed Christ, the savior of the world was coming. Soon Mary would deliver the prophesied Messiah coming to save the world. She felt so happy, he was to be her very "own little baby." So she said,….. LUKE 1:46-47 "My soul douth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior." Soon Elisabeth delivered her baby and after eight days, the Jewish religious law read that little baby boys were to be to circumcised. This set the babies apart from the rest of the world, and joined them to the covenant God made to Abraham. After Elisabeth delivered her own baby her husband the Priest Zacharias could speak and named their baby boy John. This shocked all the people! The old testament prophecies were being revealed before their very eyes. Zacharias joyfully speaking, predicted that John would prepare the way for the soon coming Messiah, Jesus. He was so very happy to finally be able to have a baby son, Praise the Lord! Matthew 1:18-23 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus:; for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. When Joseph awoke from his sleep he did what the angel told him to do. He took Mary for his wife, but didn’t have a husbands’ relationship with her until the baby was born. Joseph had discerned in his spirit to be discrete and sensitive to Mary’s plight. A baby being born to an unmarried girl, could have caused the people to stone her to death by Jewish laws. Joseph being a righteous man, had the self-discipline to be responsive to God Word and marry her. It was important for Jesus to be born of a virgin mother, because he would be free of man’s carnal sinful nature, inherited from Adam. He was to be born man, but he was also the Son of God, without sin. This miraculously made Jesus all man in the flesh, and all Holy Divine at the same time. Jesus was the prophesized messiah come to save the people from their sins! Jesus, being born human enabled him to feel all of the wonderful feelings that we have. Just like when we are sad, he feels sadness too. He understands and knows all about your feelings and emotions. Jesus knows how we all feel loving us so very much. Even when you cry, he hears you and knows all about your hurts and sorrows. He’s divine and can forgive you of all of your sins. Jesus can help us when we have the faith to believe in him. Jesus took on all of the physical weaknesses that we have, so he could die on the cross for our sins. He brought salvation to all who believe in his name. That's why Jesus came into this world to bring love to all mankind and to save us from our sins. Luke 2:1,3-5 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. The city where they traveled to was named Bethlehem. This was a tiny town about five miles south of a large city called Jerusalem. Bethlehem was about two thousand feet above the level of the sea and was a noisy, foul smelling place crowded with busy travelers. The road ways were dusty and dirty with crowds of people everywhere they went. Even at the inn that they tried to stay at, was too crowded. There was no where for them to go and Mary was due to have her baby that night. When labor, birthing pains started and they found that they were getting very desperate to find a place to deliver the baby at. Anxiously they searched and searched... Luke 2:6-7 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. Imagine, our Savior being born in a odorous barn which in those days was called a stable. Think of it like this, have you ever been in a barn on a farm and smelled all of the bedding that the animals slept on? Do you think that it would have been fun for Mary to deliver her tiny baby in that kind of place? A lowly, sad place for the Savior of the whole world to be born in, right? Jesus was born king of the world, yet he was born in a stable where animals slept and went to the bathroom. Do you think that was suitable? Would you want to deliver your baby in a place like that? Yet Jesus was born in that lowly, humble situation, an animal stable. God raised him up to become the savior of the world. The Lord turned his circumstances around for the greatest glory of the world. God can take what ever sinful, sad problems that you have and change it to good if you believe in him and accept his Son Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Luke 2:8-14 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and there were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
The Sheepherders were told about the Lamb of God being born, the Messiah which was spoken about in prophecy. They couldn't wait to see this great miracle and when out with great joy tell everyone the good news, "The Messiah of the world was born!" This was the greatest prophetic event to ever happen. The angels announced the news to poor sheepherders and not to the rich Jewish leaders and rulers. He can come to us all, the rich and the poor. Jesus had humble beginnings but the greatest of all happenings. Are you excited to tell everyone about knowing Jesus in your life? Do you want to know him this same way the Sheepherders did? Luke 2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. This ceremony is one of the most important ceremonies to happen to Jewish baby boys. The cutting away ceremony or "circumcision" is a joyful time for the whole family to celebrate. Their baby boy joining the Jewish nation of Israel was a time for a big party. Circumcision was a promised covenant made to God so that they could all be a nation set apart for the Lord. A couple of years later visitors from the east came following a very unique special star. What could it mean they thought? Thinking this they went and asked King Herod not knowing that he was a mean evil man, who thought nothing of murdering his own family members. Matthew 2:2-5,8-11 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the king, they departed; and , lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Jesus was about two years old at the time the wise men came to see him. He probably lived in a house with a carpenters shop for Joseph to work out of as a family run business. Gold was a gift fit only for an important king not the normal person. Frankincense was given to recognize the deity of Jesus. Myrrh was and anointing oil or spice. These very rich gifts were given out of deep love and respect to a new born Messiah. They worshipped Jesus for being what he was, the Son of God. They gave their most valuable gifts from their hearts. Matthew 2:13-14 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. when he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt. Herod planned on killing the baby Jesus out of great jealousy and rage. He was a very evil man who didn’t know the Lord. An angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream so he knew that he would protect his stepson with his life. Joseph's heart was prepared through his life in following the Lord so when he heard God’s Word from the angel he obeyed! Do you ever hear from the Lord? Does he come to speak to you in a small quiet voice in your mind and heart? Did you know that…Jesus Christ "Really" Loves You, Rom.10:9-11,13 reads, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamd. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Are you receptive in your heart to hearing from the Lord when he speaks to you? Do you want to be? Do you want Jesus to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior? A) Acknowledge and admit that you are a sinner, and without accepting Jesus as your Savior, your not going to Heaven. B) You need to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only betotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. C) Completely confess all of your sins so the Lord may forgive you. D) Jesus died on the cross for your sins. E) Know that you will have a joyful eternity with Jesus when go to heaven. Jesus is reaching out to you with all of the love that he has. When you realize that you are lost to eternal death without Jesus, you will have eternal life after saying this prayer. Pray with all of the love in your heart. If you just read the words out loud, they won’t have any real meaning for you. You have to say them crying from your heart. The choice is up to you to make. Where are you going to go when you die, heaven or hell? Seriously, don’t take that for granted. Bible Ref. K.J.V.
