"MARY THE GREATEST MOTHER"
 ****************************************************
Luke 1:27-39  To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.  and the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.  For with God nothing shall be impossible.  and Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.  And the angel departed from her.

Mary the mother of Jesus was the
Greatest Mother of all time.

Mary, I wonder if you were scared knowing that you were with child, yet not being married.  They could have thrown hard, cold stones at your young fragile body.  You might have been killed for caring a child without being married.  Yet you stood strong Mary and walked knowing the Lord would protect you.  What courage and strength you had to enable you to face all of the persecution. (Jewish law was pretty strict against a women having babies out of wedlock.  What a painful death that could have been for anyone to go through.)
Did you feel tired and miserable Mary, or were you tremendously excited about the miracle birth to take place in Bethlehem?   Mary, what were your thoughts and feelings? Were they the same as any of us when we have our babies?  Joy at the miracle of a new life being born.  The bad pain being forgotten the minute a little life takes it's first breath of air.  Where you so overjoyed, that it didn't matter if there was only a lowly stable to deliver your little baby in? I simply can't imagine you not feeling elated at knowing this was the Son of God being born.
Mary, did you ever have doubts or depression?  What was your life like in a hard world where Rome ruled with a cruel hand?  Were there days when you were afraid to walk down a street or to the well to get some water because of what might happen to you?  You were so young Mary when your life suddenly changed, could any young woman today do what you did then? To take on this kind of responsibility must have been  must have been quite an emotional experience.  Yet the Lord knew you were the "best woman" for the job.

Was Mary any different from any other mother? Yes she was very special.  Even though she was totally human with human emotions and feelings, God found favor with her.  Was she born with carnal sin? Yes she had sin just as we all have but she knew she was dearly loved of God.  So what made her so special?  She was the mother of Jesus the Son of the Living God!  Jesus who came into the world to die for our sins.  His great sacrifice brought Salvation to the whole world and anyone who will believe upon Him shall have eternal life in Heaven.  John 3:16
Gentle Mary lived in a time of hardship and troubles.  She was born poor but in her humble heart she was anything but poor.  The Lord was with her and knew that Mary would serve Him all the days of her life.  She would know great happiness and the deepest sadness but no matter what happened to her, she would follow the Lord.  God gave Mary the greatest dream of all for any Hebrew woman to have, to bear the Messiah, the Savior of the world.
What great courage and strength Mary had.  She faced the greatest trials to have the greatest reward.  On earth or in all of Heaven there could never be any greater reward for a woman to have, than to be the mother of the Son of God.  To bear the Messiah!
How many of us would be willing to take on such an awesome job?  Could any of us look day in and day out at Jesus?  Knowing He was perfect, and sin free yet being totally human?  We all have sins and fall short of the glory of God.  What could it have felt like to cry or think private thoughts and know that Jesus knew what they were without speaking a word.  What would it have been like being imperfect next to the perfection of Jesus?  I like to think that she could only have felt the greatest love and humble pride over such a special son.
Mary's faith in God carried her through the hard days and brought her great joy.  When the time came for Jesus to die on the cross, Mary didn't try to stop it from happening.  Can you imagine how she must have felt knowing her son was born to die for the world.   Surely Jesus had told her how He was to die on the cross and prepared her heart ahead of time.  She must have known that three days later Jesus would be resurrected alive again.  To a mother seeing her son die in such a horrible manner would have hurt tremendously.  The terrible pain that she must have felt.  Jesus loved His mother so much and it had to have hurt Him as well knowing that she was watching Him die in such agony.
We all are so blessed by Mary's obedience to God.  Because of her the Lord was able to be born not only into a loving home where He would be cared and nurtured, but to a home that was able to raise up the Savior of the world.  Mary a gentle mother brought so many blessings into our lives through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.   How blessed we all are that you said "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to they word."

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
