I Corinthians 1:26-31 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

"What could this complicated set of verses possibly mean," you might wonder.  Read it over again carefully, letting the fullness of the text rest in your heart.  There are any number of sermons that could be written from this Bible passage.
Jesus Christ proved that He had power of death.  In His fleshly human weakness man was able to kill Him, but only because Jesus let them do it.  Out of the will and submission to the Father in Heaven, Jesus allowed His body to be tortured and killed.  Jesus humbled himself in the eyes of the world submitting to death in order that we might live through the saving blood of the Lamb. He died so that our spirits might live for an eternity in Heaven with the Lord.   Jesus is the Lamb of God and out of His humbleness He gave us the example of how to live.
All the wisdom, knowledge and talent in the world will not get a person into Heaven.  Simple faith in Jesus will.  A person can have a high degree of intellectual prowess, but without having and using simple faith their great intelligence is for nothing.  Paul speaks of how the Holy Spirit guided him when he preached.
I Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
When we allow the Holy Spirit to move through us we will feel humbled in the face and power of the Lord.  Pride and self worth is for nothing.  Jesus needs to be on the throne of our lives.  When we allow the Lord to come into our hearts as our Savior than we receive Salvation.  This is wonderful but we need to do much more than just opening up the door for Jesus to come in.  We need to give Him the Lordship of our lives.  We should place Jesus at the center of our lives and humbly follow His leading.
Education and studying the Scriptures is very important to help give us Godly wisdom, but giving the Lordship of our lives is also important.  This is Godly hidden wisdom not of the world but of the Lord.  You see the world laughs and mocks at what it doesn't understand.  To the world unless one is rich, talented or even highly intelligent a person is as nothing.  How sad that they have lost out in what is really important.  Lost out in what truly matters.  Being humble before the Lord allowing simple faith to follow Jesus.  People of the world think pride in one's self and one's possessions is where it is at.  How incredibly foolish these ideals are.  God created man to serve the Lord and be His companions.  He's our Holy Father and without recognizing that fact in humbleness, how can we hope to achieve a Heavenly reward.
My special brothers and sisters, were you wise and full of your own wisdom when the Lord called you?  Did you find that as time has gone on the more you learned of the Lord, the less you felt you knew?  Did you find that the great wisdom that you thought you had was pride in worldly things?  God has a way of humbling us, doesn't He?  It takes a humble spirit before the Lord to truly know the mind and heart of God.  Who needs pride like all of the false worldly leaders.  A humble spirit follows Jesus' leading.  He is the leader, the good Shepherd and we are to humbly follow where He leads.
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty The weak things of the world come from "pride" of life,  pride of self, pride of one's own abilities and talents.  God uses the weak things like simple faith, meek and humbleness of spirit to confound the mighty.  Let me give you an example:
I was in a church one time years ago when a "Professional Singer and her husband came.  She sang beautifully and had perfect pitch.  We all clapped and enjoyed the music.  They had tapes and CDs at the back of the church to sell to further their ministry.  In between, during her singing break, a couple of friends of theirs got up to play simple three cord songs on their guitars. Now their singing was amateur and slightly off key but the anointing of the Lord was powerfully with them.  After this little couple finished we all stood up and gave a "standing ovation."  The whole audience roared with grateful noise of hand clapping and whoops. We could feel and desired the anointing of the Lord.
The first couple, being the professionals, were terribly offended but you see the anointing of the Lord was not with them.  They were Christians but full of their own pride and self worth.  The second couple were humble and sweet!  They were humble before the Lord and I wish you could have felt the Holy Spirit anointing that was with them.  They had the heart of the Lord with them in love and humbleness.  The power of that anointing I can still remember.  I knew from that day on, that is the way I wanted to be.
Pride who needs it. Who wants it if it keeps us from having a humbleness in the presence of the Lord.   If you have wisdom and talent, you "don't need" to brag.  Your skill will be made known as time goes on.  The Bible says your gifting will make way for you.  In our weakness we are strong when we humbly follow the Lord's leading.
God can take a little nobody who doesn't have any great wisdom or talent and raise them up.  The very person whom the world will look at and cast off as a nothing, no talent individual God can raise up into greatness.  Wealth, prestige, honor, wisdom, talent are of no importance if one doesn't have humbleness and simple faith.  The rejected and despised of the world have more value to the Lord than all the others put together. "That no flesh should glory in his presence," His word says.  If people don't have humbleness in simple faith than they really don't have a true closeness to Jesus.  To truly know the mind and heart of the Lord one must be humble in His presence.  Pride goeth before the fall, the Bible says.
If you have lost hope in all that is worldly and have even had thoughts of quitting ministry there is still hope.  He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.  Remember,  by humbling yourself down on your knees before the Lord, you can still have victory.  By placing the Lord at the center of your life as your Lord and Savior you can have renewed victory.  By taking all pride away you can begin to feel the anointing of His presence and majesty of God.  Let go of all self confidence and selfish pride asking the Lord to renew a right spirit within you.  For--He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.  By being humble in a sweetness of spirit you can truly know the mind and heart of God! By praising the Lord and giving Him all things can one truly know Him and have victory.
